As we approach the 2026–2027 winter season, early forecasts suggest that Long Island could experience above-average temperatures, increased precipitation, and fewer prolonged periods of extreme cold. While that might sound like welcome news for residents and property owners, the outlook presents a different set of challenges for building management, particularly in coastal communities like Long Beach.

Sometimes it takes a nor’easter to remind us just how quickly conditions can change on Long Island. Heavy rain, powerful winds, coastal flooding, downed trees, power outages, and property damage can turn an ordinary fall week into an emergency. For property owners and managers, these storms are also an important reminder: preparation shouldn't begin when the forecast turns bad.

Summer isn’t over yet. There are still plenty of warm days, beach weekends, vacations, and time to enjoy everything Long Beach and Long Island have to offer. But as we move through the second half of August, it’s also a good time for building owners and boards to make sure their properties are ready for what comes next.
